The fresh air, the rolling hills, the forest paths; walking in Dumfries and Galloway is an enchanting trip into nature. Around the Orroland estate, there are many spectacular walks and trails to follow. You can enjoy a strenuous hike or a gentle stroll, as you relish in the beauty around you.
Shawhill Loop
This is a fantastic choice and you can get to it directly from Cutlar’s Cottage. All you have to do is pass our neighbours farm and a tiny cemetery, and you’ll happen across Dundrennan Abbey (the place where Mary Queen of Scots spent her last night in Scotland). You can then loop back to Orroland gates or continue to the village.
Stockmoss Smithy
As you leave Orroland, wave goodbye to the eagles on the gatepost and turn right. This is a beautiful short walk where you can clear your head and enjoy the views over the countryside. You’ll come across a junction that will take you to the ‘Stockmoss Smithy’ and you can loop back round to Orroland.
